(We fight together with you)”标语的口罩物资,张为中主任称这批物资“来得真及时,填补了医院当前口罩短缺的窘境”。

Cambridge University - Nanjing Centre of Technology and Innovation Donated 50,000 Pieces of Medical Masks to Assist and Encourage the Frontline of COVID-19 Epidemic Prevention and Control

The sudden outbreak of COVID-19 broke the established rhythm of the beginning of 2020. In the face of the grim situation of epidemic prevention and control, the whole country has been issuing amazing cohesion. Cambridge University - Nanjing Centre of Technology and Innovation also goes all out into this white war.

Working Together to Overcome the Difficulties | Delivering Medical Supplies Directly to the Hospitals

On the morning of February 25, 10,000 medical masks, raised by Cambridge University - Nanjing Centre of Technology and Innovation, were delivered to Dr. Weizhong Zhang, department director of Jiangsu Province Hospital.

Since 21st January, Jiangsu Province Hospital has been designated as the hospital  for COVID-19 in Nanjing, and medical supplies such as masks have continued to be scarce. Seeing the boxes of masks with the slogan "We fight together with you" attached, Dr. Zhang said: "these supplies really come in time and fill the shortage of masks in the hospital."

Meanwhile, Ili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang, which Jiangsu Province Hospital has been supporting for more than 30 years, has also received 5,000 medical masks. This batch has been sent by Cambridge University - Nanjing Centre of Technology and Innovation to the local epidemic prevention and control headquarter. The supplies will be used by the local according to actual needs to protect the medical workers and staffs working on community epidemic prevention and control in the frontline of this national frontier.

In fact, this is not the only hospital that has received supplies from Cambridge University - Nanjing Centre of Technology and Innovation.

After the epidemic outbreak, in response to the shortage of medical protection supplies for frontline medical workers and community staffs, Cambridge University - Nanjing Centre of Technology and Innovation actively took the initiative to purchase 50,000 medical masks from overseas. In addition to the hospitals mentioned above, the staffs of the centre also delivered 12,500 medical masks on February 25 to Jiangbei International Branch of Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, which is also the designated hospital for the epidemic.  "Our stock of masks has been in shortage. This donation can ensure the masks of medical staffs replaced daily, and everyone will work more safely," said Dr. Zhengyun Zou , department director of the hospital.

Supporting Wuhan Makeshift Hospital | Protecting Community Epidemic Prevention and Control Staffs

In addition to focusing on the designated hospitals within Jiangsu, Cambridge University – Nanjing Centre of Technology and Innovation also has been monitoring the epidemic situation in Hubei Province.

After learning that the Shipailing Makeshift Hospital in Wuhan was in shortage of masks, the centre shipped 12,500 medical masks to the hospital on March 2. Based on the 800 beds in this hospital and two masks changed daily, the mask consumption at the treatment point can be maintained for one week with the donation.

It is worth noting that not only the doctors and patients are fighting against COVID-19 in the front line, but also the staffs working on community epidemic prevention and control have given up their holidays and spared no efforts. Thanks to their continuous efforts in the frontline of the epidemic, companies can resume work safely, residents can stay at home securely, and social systems can operate normally.

To this end, Cambridge University - Nanjing Centre of Technology and Innovation donated 10,000 medical masks to the Construction and Management Office of Nanjing Jiangbei New Area Central Business District.

Cambridge Professors Care about Domestic Epidemic | Friendship of China and Britain All Way Long

It is understood that due to the tight supply and demand of masks, it is very difficult to purchase masks, especially those that meet the medical standards.

At the beginning of the epidemic, Professor Daping Chu attempted to collect masks and other medical supplies in the United Kingdom, but it was not successful since the mask was out of stock. Then, the staffs of the centre were assigned to look for channels raising up masks. Finally,  a batch of masks that meet the medical standards was directly collected by a special staff from the production line. It took 15 days from Guangxi Port to medical workers and epidemic prevention and control staffs.

"Enterprises can only operate within the society, and social responsibility is an important symbol of corporate values. At present, no one can be alone in this epidemic situation. Enterprises should work with everyone to participate in this fight against this epidemic," said Professor Daping Chu.

He also said: " Cambridge University - Nanjing Centre of Technology and Innovation is the first joint venture research institute established by University of Cambridge outside the UK. On the one hand, bioscience and health care are one of the focused directions of the centre. It is the centre's responsibility to share the concerns for medical workers and ensure their health and safety. On the other hand, the centre is not only a research institution with global perspective, but also a bridge connecting the friendship between China and Britain. The COVID-19 epidemic is an unpredictable emergency. However, the friendship between University of Cambridge and China and Nanjing, the friendship between the people of two countries are long-last, and there is no border for epidemic assistance. Together with British side, Cambridge University - Nanjing Centre of Technology and Innovation will continue to pay attention to the progress of this epidemic, make use of its research capability advantages, actively carry out related research topics, and link talent resources at home and abroad to make its own contribution."
