Samaná, also known as Santa Barbara de Samaná, is a city in the northeast of the Dominican Republic and the capital of the province of Samaná. It is located on the northern shore of the Samana Bay of the Atlantic Ocean and the southern shore of the Samana Peninsula, 38 km west of Sanchez and 96 km southwest of Santo Domingo.Built in 1756,it boasts a beautiful scenery along the coast and a seaside resort. Tanning is the leading industry. The city is rich in cocoa, coconuts, honey, precious woods, and fishery resources.
